At LluevaCafe β , we believe Digital Transformation can deeply impact the coffee industry, particularly for small-scale farmers in developing countries. These farmers face a lot of challenges, from unpredictable weather conditions to a lack of access to credit and an aging workforce.
π― The Opportunity
The specialty coffee market is experiencing unprecedented growth momentum, with a projected market size growth of almost 40 billion dollars by 2027. By leveraging technology, we can help farmers access this market, seize this growth opportunity, and improve their livelihoods.
Our approach involves three main pillars: Supply Chain, Digital Technologies, and People.
β‘ We think there's a way to simplify the supply chain by reducing unnecessary middlemen and exploring direct-to-consumer strategies.
π² Secondly, there's a clear opportunity to leverage modern digital platforms to provide farmers with digital tools for production, distribution, and go-to-market processes, including automation, forecasting tools, and credit.
π Finally, we want to empower immigrant workers with fair wages and opportunities for a better life.
There are 4 key roles at the heart of the coffee experience: Producer, Green Coffee Buyer, Roaster, and Barista. By rethinking the supply chain and leveraging digital tools, we can improve each of these roles and create a more efficient and profitable industry.
We envision a simplified supply chain that goes from farmers to roast at origin, to a central fulfillment center, to an online store and to the consumer. By reducing layers that don't add direct value to the product, we can help farmers keep more of the profits.
To achieve this vision, we propose a range of digital products, from harvest processing software to machine learning algorithms for production and quality control. We also want to establish a Coffee Academy and Credit-as-a-Service to support farmers and immigrant workers.
Digital transformation can make a real difference in the coffee world. By creating a collective B2B2C coffee community, we can simplify a highly traditional, crowded, and commoditized supply chain and digitally transform it for a better world.
LluevaCafe wants to play a key role in this journey toward a more equitable and sustainable future.
