The Art of Kindness: How Being Nice to Your Barista Enhances Your Coffee Experience

If you’ve ever looked carefully when they are brewing your coffee at the coffee shop, you know how pivotal a role your barista plays in your daily caffeine fix. From welcoming you and giving a kind smile (rather than the bird that for sure a lot of them are tempted to), to the perfect brew they serve, these coffee artists ensure that your day starts perfectly. But have you ever wondered how your behavior towards your barista could impact your coffee experience? We can’t stress enough the importance of being polite to your barista and the ways in which it enhances your daily dose of caffeine and weirdness.

Why is it crucial to be nice to your barista?

1. Quality of Service:

Politeness is like a boomerang; what you give is what you get back. A courteous approach encourages your barista to put in that extra effort into crafting your perfect cup of coffee.

2. Fostering a Positive Atmosphere:

Coffee shops are often seen as havens of comfort, peace, and warmth. By maintaining a polite demeanor, you contribute to this atmosphere, making it more enjoyable not just for you, but for everyone around.

3. Enhancing Your Coffee Knowledge:

Baristas are well-versed in the world of coffee. Being kind to them opens up a world of fascinating coffee facts, tips, and tricks that they are likely to share, enhancing your overall coffee knowledge.

Don’t be a Karen: The Impact of Speaking to the Manager

Speaking rudely to the manager creates an unpleasant environment, not just for the staff, but also for other customers.

Managers are there to ensure your experience is as delightful as possible. By addressing your concerns in a calm and respectful manner, you allow them to rectify the situation in the best possible way. This way, you'll not only be heard, but you'll be contributing to a more enjoyable experience for everyone.

Fortunately it ended up good for Lenin Gutierrez.

Basically, Starbucks barista Lenin Gutierrez gained widespread support and a $100,000 windfall after refusing service to a customer, Amber Lynn Gilles, who declined to wear a mask, in line with public health guidelines. Gilles, a yoga instructor and self-proclaimed activist, expressed her indignation on Facebook, prompting an immediate backlash and leading to her being labeled as a 'Karen,' denoting a sense of entitlement. Following the incident, Matt Cowan started a GoFundMe campaign titled "Tips for Lenin Standing Up To A San Diego Karen," which raised over $104,000. Gutierrez, an aspiring dancer, plans to use some of the funds to pursue his dreams and donate to local San Diego organizations.

Other stories that emotionally harm people, include leaving negative reviews, just because you have a political agenda, a huge ego, and you’re the biggest jerk, like this abomination found in Reddit:

Maintaining politeness in your interactions with your barista and manager goes beyond basic etiquette. It fosters a warm environment, ensures excellent service, and could open up a world of coffee knowledge. So, the next time you step into your favorite coffee shop, remember: kindness is the secret ingredient to the perfect coffee experience.

Don’t be a bad person. Always be empathetic.
